What does Áṣá mean?
Áṣá is the Yoruba word for 'Culture'. Our collective was established to preserve the sacred beauty of our heritage while courageously challenging and eliminating outdated or divisive customs.
Who are the founding members of Áṣá?
The collective is founded by three multidisciplinary Nigerian creators based in Canada: Subomi (Anti-shade), Shola (Sholisco), and Ahanavi (Navi).
What is 'Roots & Flowers'?
'Roots & Flowers' is Áṣá's flagship multidisciplinary exhibition. It combines digital canvas painting, documentary video, poetry, and spoken word to spark critical evaluations of culture and human fellowship.
How does Áṣá collaborate with arts grant foundations?
We apply for public and private arts funding to build community-wide exhibitions, educational workshops, and digital media projects. This website serves as our official dossier and portfolio showcase.
Can individual members be commissioned for private or public projects?
Yes! Subomi accepts visual art and digital canvas commissions, Shola directs video production and community media campaigns, and Ahanavi is available for poetry performances, journalism, and scriptwriting.
